Rapid overdevelopment in Raleigh has led to gentrification, pushing out long residents and creating an affordability crisis. I believe in a balanced approach to growth that will prioritize affordable housing and ensure that all residents have access safe and affordable housing.
Local leadership should be focused on implementing a mixed housing policy that requires developers to set aside a certain percentage of units in new developments for affordable housing. This should be non negotiable. This would help maintain economic diversity in the city and prevent low-income families from being pushed out due to rising housing costs. Additionally, investing in community land trusts and affordable housing initiatives can help create more opportunities for affordable homeownership and rental options for residents of all income levels…not just some. Under my leadership, I would bring a fresh perspective to city hall and prioritize the needs of all residents, ensuring that Raleigh remains a vibrant and inclusive city for generations to come….
Community engagement is the cornerstone of my vision for Raleigh. As your mayor, I see my role as a partnership with every resident, working together to create a city that reflects our shared values and aspirations. I am committed to being a mayor for ALL people, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. The revival of our Citizen Advisory Councils (CACs) is a testament to this commitment. CACs provide a vital platform for residents to actively participate in shaping our city’s future, fostering transparency, collaboration, and trust. Together, we can build a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving Raleigh.
I understand that the foundation of a thriving community lies in the safety and well-being of its residents. Our firemen, policemen, and first responders put their lives on the line daily to protect us, and it is essential that we provide them with the support and compensation they deserve.
As mayor, I will be committed to ensuring our public safety officers receive a fair, livable wage that reflects their dedication and the critical role they play in our city. By investing in their well-being, we not only honor their service but also enhance the overall safety and security of our community.
The Myrick for Mayor campaign hosted an untraditional launch event with a special screening of the powerful 30-minute documentary, “Dying To Vote,” which delves into the crucial issues surrounding voting rights. Following the film, there was a spirited Q&A session with the acclaimed filmmaker, Loki Mullholland. We enjoyed refreshments while engaging in meaningful dialogue about the future of our community.
